Maxim Fiber Protection has two protective properties. The first is an acid dye blocker that fills the extra dye sites in a fiber. It’s a transparent dye that protects the fibers from absorbing stains.
The second property is called a “fluorochemical,” better known as 3M Scotchgard® or DuPont Teflon® that prevents spillage from getting to the acid dye blocker and resists dry soil. By resisting dry soil, less dirt is bound to the carpet. This means that you’ll pick up more soil when vacuuming your carpet.
When soil bounds with the carpet fibers, it acts almost like sandpaper on your traffic area. Once the threads on your carpet wear down, there is no way to restore the damage. Applying a sufficient amount of protector to your carpet will protect your carpet by preventing the soil from bonding with the fibers.
